UACES Student Forum Research Students' Conference 2011

On 7th November the UACES Student Forum is holding its annual research students' conference.

This one-day conference is aimed at students who are actively engaged in research. The emphasis of the conference will be placed on tackling the specific challenges which arise at varying stages of the doctoral process. This event is an opportunity to meet fellow students who are engaged in related fields of research and an ideal introduction to the UACES community. Please see : www.uaces.org/teaching2011 for further information.

The programme includes what promises to be a very interesting keynote speech by Jonathan Scheele, the representative of the European Commission in London. He formerly headed the Commission’s representation in Romania playing a crucial role in the country’s accession to the European Union in 2007. He also directed the DG Transport within the Commission. Michael Shackleton from the European Parliament’s Information Office in the United Kingdom will also deliver a keynote speech. He has spent over 25 years with the Parliament in Luxembourg and Brussels. He has worked in the Budgets Committee, managed negotiations between Parliament and Council and most recently, set up europarlTV, the webtv of the European Parliament.

Another highlight is the traditional Roundtable on ‘How to get a job after finishing your PhD’. You will hear from academics and practitioners about the possibilities of finding a job after your PhD.

Following a popular vote, the programme will also include panels on ‘Managing the Stages of the PhD’, ‘Conferences – tips and tricks, ‘How to design and carry out fieldwork’ and ‘Publishing your work’.

This year we will also be holding elections for two vacant committee positions. For further information about this, please see http://www.uacesstudentforum.org/elections/index.php

Looking forward to meeting you at the conference,
The UACES Student Forum Committee
