Academic writing courses for Postgrad Researchers

(This one is for Salford Uni PGRs only) --

Are you interested in improving your academic writing?

Dr Carson Bergstrom is running a ‘Wordscope’ course for PhD students, starting on Monday 26 September at 11:00 – 12:30 and running for 10 consecutive weeks. These will take place in Newton Building room 238/9

In each 90 minute workshop, participants undertake writing exercises so as to can experience an immediate “hands-on” application of new skills. Students are also asked to undertake short homework assignments, and receive detailed feedback from course tutors on these exercises. The first workshop introduces two key concepts: the complete sentence and the importance of writing consciously. After that, each workshop builds on previous ones, the level of complexity and sophistication increasing as the programme proceeds.

If you are interested in attending, please confirm your place by emailing wordscope-esph@salford.ac.uk. Please state that you are a postgraduate researcher and that you are interested in the Monday course at 11 – 12.30.

Please note, this course is aimed at researchers whose first language is English. If you speak English as a foreign language and are interested in improving your writing, you can make use of the ‘English for Academic Purposes’ programme (see http://www.languages.salford.ac.uk/efl/programmes/eap/ for more details)

Please keep an eye on the Postgraduate Studies website for more details of forthcoming research training – the full 2011 – 2012 will be available online very soon!
